imagineNATIVE Film Festival to tour North Ontario
About the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival
The imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival is an international festival that celebrates the latest works by Aboriginal peoples on the forefront of innovation in film, video, radio, and new media. Each fall, the festival presents a selection of the most compelling and distinctive Aboriginal works from around the globe. The festival’s screenings, parties, panel discussions and cultural events attract and connect filmmakers, media artists, programmers, buyers, and industry professionals. The works accepted reflect the diversity of the world’s Aboriginal nations and illustrate the vitality and excellence of our art and culture in contemporary media. imagineNATIVE is the largest festival of its kind in Canada and the world.
About the 2010 imagineNATIVE Northern Ontario Tour
The 2010 imagineNATIVE tour will visit six communities in the Algoma and James Bay regions of northern Ontario beginning mid-February. Providing an opportunity to non-urban Aboriginal communities outside of Toronto, participants will see works that reflect Aboriginal perspectives and stories.
The tour will include a youth program with a selection of short films from the 2009 festival made by or for youth. The youth program is presented as a part of the school day for a total run time of one and a half hours, including a Question and Answer session to help stimulate discussion around the themes presented in the work and generate interest in film and media art studies at post-education institutions.
imagineNATIVE will also present the feature film Older Than America starring Adam Beach and directed by Georgina Lightning, preceded by Palace starring Lorne Cardinal and directed by Richard Story. This screening is free and open to the community. (Please see Feature Presentation below)
This tour is made possible in part by a grant from the Ontario Arts Council’s Touring and Collaborations program.
Additional support provided by Air Creebec and the Weeneebeg Aboriginal Film + Video Festival.
